CCTV stands for closed circuit television. The blocking of the images produced by surveillance cameras is done through the circuit. The viewer gets cables with which to connect the camera to the monitor. These cables will display the images to the person at the receiving end.
The operating principle of the system is that it makes use of digital media for the purpose of surveillance. Every day a different format of surveillance video is made available. Videos in the form of films, films attest to the quality of the images obtained from this type of equipment.
The circuit used is such that it allows the camera to produce an image to the monitor using certain operating rules. The user has to set these rules through a menu. For example, for a digital camera the user has to access the mode through the menu and choose the mode which best suits the type of equipment being used.
The various types of cameras which are used by the CCTV are suited for the different types of CCTV network connections. The most common types are the DVRs, the hidden cameras, the camcorders, and the protocol cameras.
The DVRs
These DVRs are powerful enough to record hours of footage. These DVRs have features like file compression, digital zoom, and signal monitoring for better quality of video. The recorded video can be stored to a storage device or on a hard drive.
The digital zoom needed for the DVR is useful since the recorded image from a DVR can be viewed on a computer screen. A DVR with a high degree digital zoom is useful especially in a business or other related field where a lot of footage needs processing.
The recorded video can be played back according to the surveillance plan with the help of the output device. The output device is a card like the VCR with an output outlet. The VCR is used as the monitor while the output device plays back the recorded signal.
Hidden cameras
These cameras are wired to the DVR and record the signals to the PC. It is possible to view the recorded data as a file but it is more convenient to view it on the computer. These cameras are popular in offices to record the signals or signals from the DVR. The advantage of the wired cameras is that they can be connected to the DVR and viewed from any part of the world. They are also cost effective. Wired cameras are more suitable for locations which are far from the DVR.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
It is most commonly used to transfer the files from one computer to another through the Internet. The FTP software client is needed to transfer files, while the remote computer will be the uploader.
IRC (Internet Relayed Chat)
It is a chat protocol through which users can chat with other users registered users. This chat protocol is used for instant messaging. The IRC servers will have a user name and a password. Chat rooms are located in a public area on the Internet. All users have to have an IRC client installed. This client can be used for signing into a website. Once the user has registered, he or she can login to several websites with the use of an IRC client.
An IRC client can be used for multiple purposes. It can be used for chatting. We can have video chat with the help of an IRC client. With an IRC client, it is possible to have video chat with the help of the video chat facilities provided by the IRC servers. We can have video calling with the help of the IRC client. We can also avail facilities for file transferring with the help of the client.
An IRC server will have several advantages over an ordinary terminal. Firstly, it is possible to store the files and documents that have been sent through the computer on the server. Secondly, it is possible to execute several programs among all the users simultaneously. Thirdly, it is a great way to access instant messaging and e-mail services.
