To start, the detailing of the RAM on this unit, in the promotional materials, is a bit misleading. This unit has 3Gb of RAM. The Android OS allows you to allocate storage space as additional “RAM”, which is really swap space that the OS can use to mimic memory by swapping out things that are not currently in use with things that are being used. This is pretty common with modern operating systems. In my case, I bumped up this virtual RAM to 4Gb – for a total of 7Gb.
This unit also has 32Gb of on-board storage. This storage can be augmented with a Mini SD Card, up to 1Tb in size. I did happen to have one of these that I wasn’t using, so I popped it in. That brought me to my only real issue with this unit. Getting the SD card to properly lock into place took a lot of fiddling and tries. I did finally get it seated, and once I did, I was able to format it and now it shows as available space for movies, pictures, etc.
The unit comes with a basic case (non-folding) – being a transparent gray with my unit. This obscured the fact that the unit was actually a light purpley in color.
And yes, the unit does come pre-loaded with Android version 14.
This is the first tablet that I have procured for my actual use. I’ve had occasional use of a tablet from another vendor, also an Android, so it wasn’t a completely new thing to me. I will note that I am a Windows user, so getting used to a tablet like this has had its learning curve. With that, I have been happy with this device. I do not play games on it, but rather it’s for utility use. A lot of home automation tools have no PC analog, so I have to have something else to use – hence this tablet. Well, that and a lot of vacation and other tools too. I have not encountered any problems with software loading; or running; or use in general.
I haven’t played around enough with it yet to be able to comment on battery useage/longevity.
The unit is solid, and feels well built. It was a good purchase for me.
